Brazilian cotton exports soared and sales to China exceeded domestic consumption

Brazilian cotton producers association (abrapa) said that due to China's strong demand for Brazilian lint, Brazilian cotton exports reached 115243 tons in May, a year-on-year increase of 66%, setting a new record for the month

① abrapa said that the export volume in May led to the export volume of 2020/21 (ending in June) to date exceeding the annual performance of the previous year. During this period, China's imports exceeded Brazil's domestic consumption

② China, the largest cotton buyer in Brazil, imported 23700 tons of cotton in May. So far this year, it has imported 700000 tons of Brazilian cotton, a year-on-year increase of 22%

③ so far this year, the load reading pointer of Brazil to China has stayed still so that the reading cotton export volume has exceeded the consumption of Brazilian textile industry. The national commodity supply company of Brazil estimates that the domestic cotton consumption of Brazil in 2020/21 is 680000 tons
